Meek Mill, who hasn’t dropped an album since 2021, has offered an explanation for why he’s taking his time.

On Saturday (June 24), the Philly native shared a screenshot of a text message from an unknown sender that read as follows: “Man fuk them views numbers & critics & comments & opinions, drop it.”

Meek Mill captioned the image: “If I ain’t drop music it’s a reason I’m handling the business … we not shinning shoes to look the famous  and feel the biggest for a label … and I’m not selling my shit like it’s mid… the game watered down y’all overhyped everything now it’s a drought.”

He then tweeted an update on what he’s got cooking in the kitchen. “I’m giving up 4 albums chilllllllll,” the 36-year-old MC wrote. “Switchie flow…. Ima crack the code seriously and say it b4 I do it lol.”

The second tweet is particularly puzzling considering the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper teased two new albums recently, so that number seems to have doubled within a week.

On Sunday (June 18), Meek revealed on social media that he’s currently working on two separate bodies of work. Whereas one tracklist will be a joint effort with rapper and singer Vory, the other is a more varied collaborative undertaking.

He tweeted the following: “This other album I got coming I can’t speak on (not the vory one)  but it’s also gone be top tier rap album and a vibeeeee…. It’s a collab album from some Of your favorite  artist on one super movie!!!!!!”

It is unclear what exactly he means by “collab album.” It could mean a lot of features on a solo record or a Dream Chasers Records equivalent to Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers series — the possibilities are endless.

Meek previously spoke about how little he earned from his last album, Expensive Pain, which is most likely why he wants to make sure he doesn’t make the same mistakes with his upcoming music.

Taking to Instagram in October to reflect on the 2o21 album, the Dream Chasers boss explained how he wanted to use the release as a lesson on how not to do business in the future.

“1 year Anniversary to the last album idk how money I made off it or had no control over the overall plan and I only made 13% off it lol,” he captioned the album’s cover art. “I’ma make 10m + off every album I drop from here on out.

“I was caught up in that slave shit that’s why I been taking long …… that shit still on this album! everything I do flames! they don’t really promote music with morals in that system … now it’s my go now ima crack the code on getting paid for rapping! #Expensivepain.”

He added: “Don’t show me plaques show me checks how much each song make ? shout to roc nation And @ninachanel pressed p on this.”
